XC: A week in review

This was a busy week in XC, with three races--yes, three. Tuesday's race was in Broadway, hosted by J.F. Hillyard, Thursday's race was in Mcgaheysville, hosted by Montevideo, and today's Invitational was in Weyer's Cave. Thank goodness, we have smart coaches, who instructed the runners to treat Thursday's race as a hard practice where the runners ran in designated groups for the first mile. Ian had some great runs, PR'ing twice. On Tuesday, he ran a 12:57, Thursday a 12:50 and today, 13 minutes flat. Pictures from today's race are on the right.

Skyline Meet

The first CC meet at Skyline Middle School, ever!! This is the new middle school in town and so the course was new for everyone. It had an awful 180 degree turn in it that I hope they will change. Everyone seemed to run slower here. The boys took second place, a mere 5 points behind Montevideo. The girls one their event with a 7 point lead over Pence. Ian was the 2nd THMS boy to finish and 6th overall, with a time of 13 min 40 sec. He edged out one of his teammates in the final sprint--go Ian!! It was an exciting finish and, yes, I was screaming my head off :)

Nine Mile Post

No, I'm not talking about the 9th mile post on the OBX, although I do know where that is, and as it turns out, we will be staying at the 9.5 mile post for the big race. But, I am referring to my morning run. I ran 9 miles for the first time ever!! I am feeling great and sensing more than ever that my goal is within reach. My time: 91 minutes, 10 seconds. I only have to add 4.1 miles to that to do the half-marathon :)

EMHS Invitational

This was a hot day for a run, with temperatures right at 90 degrees F. The THMS boys won the race for the fifth year in a row, taking 2nd, 3rd, 7th, 8th, and 11th places. Ian was 7th overall (third on the team) with a time of 13:25. The THMS girls suffered from missing teammates and injuries and so did not place as a team, although they did have one member in the top ten finishers, overall. This course has a lot of hills and is mostly in the sun. I was glad that I didn't have to run in the race, as I was sweating enough just watching :)

First Cross Country Race of the Year!

Ian ran very well this afternoon, running the 2 mile race in 13 minutes and 10 seconds. This was a personal record (PR) for him. In fact, it was a 38 second improvement from his previous PR! Way to go Ian!! Pictures from the event are available at the link below. I promise to take more at the next meet, which is coming up this Saturday. Stay tuned :)

Pictures Here!

Middle Grades Youth Visit

The middle grades youth group from our church visited this afternoon for a pool party. This was the 'kick-off' for the new church school year. Everyone had a lot of fun. There was synchronized diving, games and a lot of jumping!
